ABOUT MRS. CARLSON

As a teacher with 30 years of experience, my expertise is working with students who have been diagnosed with dyslexia, as well as those that are struggling with any literacy or writing components.
When students walk into my office, before we do any of this important work, it is my priority to connect with them. I help them understand that I know about their struggles and that together we can make changes so they can feel successful. I draw on my students' strengths and we set goals together. It is my honor to do this work. There is nothing better than watching a love of learning develop for a child and subsequently improve their self-esteem and love for school!
Since 2005, I have worked in the Poudre School District in Colorado, supporting students who are learning English as a new language and providing targeted reading intervention. I am fluent in both English and Spanish.
I am certified through the Academy of Orton-Gillingham, a program recognized by the International Dyslexia Association. My training included intensive coursework at CU Boulder, followed by a supervised practicum before applying for certification through IDA. I continue to stay up to date by attending conferences and professional development trainings, and I renew my certification annually.
