ABOUT MRS. CARLSON

As a teacher with 26 years of experience, my expertise is working with students who have been diagnosed with dyslexia, as well as those that are struggling with any literacy or writing components.
When students walk into my office, before we do any of this important work, it is my priority to connect with them. I help them understand that I know about their struggles and that together we can make changes so they can feel successful. I draw on my students' strengths and we set goals together. It is my honor to do this work. There is nothing better than watching a love of learning develop for a child and subsequently improve their self-esteem and love for school!
I have worked for Poudre School District in Colorado since 2005 with students learning English as a new language and with students that need additional literacy support. I am also fluent in both English and Spanish.
I have my certification through the Academy of Orton-Gillingham; a program recognized and approved by the International Dyslexia Association. I attended the intensive training offered at CU Boulder and then I completed my supervised practicum before I applied to obtain my certification through the International Dyslexia Association (IDA). I attend conferences and trainings regularly to stay updated and continue renewing my yearly certification.
